Kano residents urge Kabir-Yusuf to prioritise education, healthcare, wate

A cross-section of Kano residents has appealed to Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf to prioritize education, healthcare and water supply during his administration.

The people spoke in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) shortly after Kabir-Yusuf’s inauguration.

A retired health worker, Alhaji Kabiru Sani, urged him to improve on healthcare services.

Another retired civil servant, Ali Kura, advised the governor to revive the health centers and make them more functional.

Kura said that the centers were understaffed and that efforts should be made to engage more qualified health workers.

Mrs. Aisha Ola also urged the new government to pay special attention to the education sector to ensure quality education for the children, especially at primary and post-primary levels.

Ola appealed to the government to rid the Kano metropolis of the menace of political thugs, pickpockets and phone snatchers.

“I want the governor to declare an emergency on the security and education sectors,” he said.

An educationist, Saidu Dauda, also said that there was an urgency need to increase the budgetary allocation to the education sector.

Dauda appealed to the governor to serve the people selflessly by putting the interest of the masses above self.

“The governor should pay special attention to healthcare, education, security and youth empowerment.

“Empowering the youths would help to tackle social vices and other security challenges in the state.

Another resident, Muhammad Ali, urged the government to give priority attention to public water supply in the state.

According to him, the provision of water should be prioritized because water is life. (NAN)
