Kano: Sagagi tours key economic establishments to enhance synergy
As part of efforts to foster synergy and stimulate economic growth, the newly appointed Kano State Commissioner for Commerce, Investment and Industry, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, has embarked on a familiarisation visit to key establishments under the ministry’s mandate..
SolaceBase reports that the tour covered Kano State Investment and Properties Limited (KSIP), Abubakar Rimi Market (Sabon Gari Market), and Fortune Rice Mills Limited.
Speaking during the visit, Sagagi emphasized the importance of harmonizing efforts among the ministry’s departments and agencies.
According to him, the primary goal was to assess operations, identify challenges, and ensure collaboration among agencies to achieve the state government’s economic objectives.
“This visit is aimed at ensuring that all agencies under the ministry work in synergy to achieve economic growth and create wealth for Kano State,” he said.

Sagagi also addressed the need to tackle unemployment, referencing recent protests as a wake-up call for the state government to prioritize job creation.
“These incidents highlight the urgency of addressing unemployment and working in harmony to fulfil the campaign promises of His Excellency, the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf” he noted.
At Fortune Rice Mills, Sagagi outlined plans to enhance reciprocal relationships between the state government and private businesses.
He assured companies that the administration would support those contributing to local production and reducing dependency on imports.

In a remark, the Managing Director of Fortune Rice Mills, Alhaji Dalhatu Shehu Adamu, expressed optimism about Sagagi’s leadership.

“We are pleased with this visit and have faith in the commissioner’s ability to deliver on his mission of job creation. His expertise in this field gives us confidence,” Adamu remarked.
During the visit to Abubakar Rimi Market, Sagagi emphasized transparency in market operations, directing the profiling of shops to maintain accurate statistics and ensure proper revenue collection.
He also urged major companies operating in Kano but headquartered elsewhere to contribute to infrastructure development through corporate social responsibility.
The Managing Director of the market, Alhaji Bashir Hussaini, commended the commissioner’s proactive approach and pledged full cooperation.
“We are ready to support all initiatives aimed at improving commerce and development in Kano,” Hussaini said.
At KSIP, the Managing Director , Alhaji Auwal Mukhtari praised Sagagi as the first commissioner to engage directly with the agency since Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf assumed office.
Mukhtari acknowledged the agency’s achievements but also highlighted areas needing improvement.
“Previous commissioners only visited for specific reasons, but Sagagi’s visit shows a genuine interest in understanding our challenges and fostering collaboration. We are grateful and hopeful for continued support,” Mukhtari stated.

Sagagi reiterated his commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the ministry’s agencies and aligning operations with the state’s economic agenda.
He stressed the importance of tax compliance, stating, “When businesses fulfill their tax obligations, the government will provide the necessary services to support them.”
The familiarisation visit highlights the Kano State Government’s determination to create a conducive environment for businesses, strengthen public-private partnerships, and drive sustainable economic growth.
