The Kano State Bureau of Statistics (KSBS) has announced plans to conduct a comprehensive census of tertiary institutions across the state, scheduled to run from Wednesday, January 14, to Friday, January 23, 2026.
The exercise, which will last for 10 working days, is aimed at generating accurate and up-to-date data on the state’s tertiary education sector.
According to the Bureau, information to be collected will cover the number and types of tertiary institutions operating in Kano State, student enrolment figures and academic programmes, available infrastructure such as classrooms, laboratories and libraries, staffing levels and qualifications, as well as the current operational status of institutions.
The bureau explained that the census is designed to provide policymakers, educational institutions and other stakeholders with reliable data that will support effective planning, better resource allocation and improved educational outcomes in the state.

In a statement issued by the Bureau, tertiary institutions were urged to cooperate fully with the exercise by providing accurate information to trained enumerators and supervisors who will be deployed for the census.
The Bureau noted that the success of the exercise depends largely on the willingness of institutions to respond promptly and truthfully.
“The cooperation of all tertiary institutions is critical to shaping the future of education in Kano State,” the statement said, stressing that the data gathered would play a key role in evidence-based decision-making.
For further clarification, KSBS advised institutions and members of the public to contact the Statistician General of Kano State, Dr. Suraj Sulaiman, on 07032154410, or the Director of Field Services, Auwal Yau Muhammad, 08069090468.
The census is expected to be one of the most extensive data-gathering efforts in Kano State’s tertiary education sector in recent years, providing a clearer picture of existing capacities and challenges within the system.
