The Kano State Government has announced plans to revive the Pollution Control Laboratory located at Farm Center as part of its commitment to addressing environmental challenges and improving public health in the state.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr Dahiru Muhammad Hashim, during a radio program on Freedom Radio, monitored by SolaceBase on Monday.

Hashim emphasized the importance of the laboratory in tackling pollution and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

The commissioner said that the laboratory, which has been dormant for several years, is crucial in conducting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Environmental Health Assessments (EHA), and other monitoring activities to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment.

“The Pollution Control Laboratory at Farm Center is a vital asset for Kano State in monitoring and managing environmental pollutants. Its revival will enable us to carry out environmental assessments more effectively, enforce regulations, and protect the health of our people,” Dr. Hashim said.

He explained that the laboratory would also support sustainable development efforts by evaluating the environmental impacts of various projects and offering solutions to minimize potential harm.

As part of the revival plan, the state government intends to equip the laboratory with modern technology and train personnel to enhance its capacity to address emerging environmental challenges.

Dr. Hashim further noted that the government is working closely with relevant stakeholders, including environmental experts and development partners, to ensure the successful restoration and operation of the facility.

According to him, The revival of the Pollution Control Laboratory aligns with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s led government’s broader strategy to promote environmental sustainability and improve waste management systems in Kano State.

According to him, once operational, the laboratory is expected to serve as a hub for environmental monitoring and research, significantly contributing to efforts to create a cleaner and more sustainable environment for the state.
