Kano unveils 24-hour healthcare centre to boost access to medical services

The Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, officially received a newly constructed Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in Dorawar Sallau, Garun Malam Local Government Area (LGA), on Tuesday.

The facility, supported by the World Bank through the Primary Healthcare Development Agency, is set to provide essential medical services to thousands of residents in the area.

In a statement released on Friday, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano Ministry of Health, Nabilusi Abubakar Kofar Na’isa, highlighted that the new centre is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure.

“This is one of many healthcare centres being constructed to increase access to quality medical services across Kano State,” Dr. Yusuf said. “With 187 centres already completed, our target is to build 484 PHCs, ensuring that every ward in the state has a modern, fully operational healthcare facility.”

SolaceBase reports that the newly inaugurated facility is designed to operate 24 hours a day, aiming to alleviate the long-standing challenges residents face in accessing healthcare services. Dr Yusuf emphasized that the 24/7 operation would bring healthcare services closer to the people, thereby improving overall health outcomes in the region.

The handover ceremony also marked the transfer of the facility from the contractor, Engr. Rabiu Shehu Yakubu of Lot6Obet-Obet Nigeria Limited, to the Kano State Government.

Malam Idris Hamisu, Chairman of the Ward Development Committee (WDC) and a local community leader, expressed his gratitude for the establishment of the new health centre. He assured that the WDC would continue efforts to raise awareness, particularly among pregnant women, encouraging them to utilize the facility for regular antenatal care and check-ups.
