Northwest University, Kano, has approved a special admission for the 16th Emir of Kano, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, into its Faculty of Law, the institution has announced.
The approval was disclosed in an official statement issued by the university through the Office of the Registrar and signed by the Head of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records (DEAR), Jafaru Sule Muhammad, on behalf of the Registrar, Isyaku Adamu.
The letter, dated January 12, 2026, was addressed to the Emir at his palace , Gidan Rumfa, Kano.
According to the statement, the university said the Emir was granted admission “after satisfying the University requirements for special consideration.”
It added that Sanusi has been admitted into the LL.B. Common Law and Shariah degree program in the Faculty of Law at Level 200, with effect from the 2024/2025 academic session.

SolaceBase reports that the admission comes in recognition of the Emir’s strong academic background.
Sanusi, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, recently earned a PhD from a London university and holds several other academic and professional qualifications spanning economics, Islamic finance and public policy.
The university further stressed that the admission is conditional, explaining that it is subject to compliance with the institution’s rules and regulations.
“The admission is subject to your complying with the rules and regulations contained in the Northwest University Student Handbook,” the letter stated.
While congratulating the Emir on the development, the management directed him to proceed with registration across the relevant units of the university.

The statement explained that the process will involve the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records, the ICT Unit, the Bursary Department, the Faculty or Department, the University Library and the Student Affairs Division.
Northwest University, Kano, reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and lifelong learning, noting that the admission aligns with its policy of encouraging continued scholarship regardless of status or position.
