Kano 2023: Wali confident of winning governorship race

Kano State Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Muhammad Sadiq Wali on Friday said he was set to upstage all comers in the March 11th governorship election.

SOLACEBASE reports that Wali’s reaction is coming twenty four hours after supreme court reaffirmed his candidature as the apex court dismissed Mohammed Abacha’s appeal.

Sadiq Wali who hosted newsmen at his Bompai GRA residence assured that the prolonged intra-party crisis that was resolved by the Apex court on Wednesday would not hamper his chances.

He explained that data from the last election in Kano showed that only 25 percent of accredited voters participated in the exercise, as he added that the situation was occasioned by no localised interest to spur most eligible voters to action.

Wali admitted that although his fellow contestants were not pushed over, he stressed that his popularity and that of his party, the PDP would separate the wheat from the chaff.

The former Commissioner for Water Resources dismissed insinuations that the party leader in Kano state, and two-term former governor of the state, senator Ibrahim Shekarau is working for his rival in All Progressives Congress candidate, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna.

Sadiq Wali explained that there was nothing to suggest that Malam Ibrahim Shekarau would work against the PDP candidate in the March 11 governorship election in the state.

Wali maintained that “It is not true. What will Shekarau benefit if he works for Gawuna now? I can unequivocally tell you that Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau has no problem with my candidature. It is just nonsense to say Shekarau is working underground against my candidature.”

He further explained that “Shekarau just decided to remain silent in the PDP crisis at the state level because the case was in court. As a man who respects law and democracy, he should not speak on a case that is before the court. But, as far as i am concerned, it is not true that Shekarau is working for APC.”
