Kano: Gov Yusuf warns LG chairmen against illegal sale of govt properties

Kano State Government has issued a stern warning to all 44 local government chairmen instructing them to immediately cease any unauthorized sale of government properties within their domain across the state.

SOLACEBASE reports that the warning comes following reports that local government chairmen have allegedly been engaging in illegal sale of government assets, including farms, plots of land, shops, and residential properties.

The State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, expressed grave concern over these reports and emphasized the need to protect public assets.

The state Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, warned that the government will take decisive action against anyone found guilty of selling government properties.

A statement issued by Dahiru Lawan Kofar Wambai, Public Relations Officer, Ministry for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, on Friday, said Comrade Gwarzo revealed that an intelligent team has been dispatched to various local government areas to identify and apprehend individuals involved in the unauthorized sale of government properties.

“The government’s warning extends to land encroachers, with a clear emphasis on the legal consequences for those found to have participated in the sale or purchase of government-owned land,’’ the statement said.

It urged members of the public to support the government’s efforts by reporting any instances of individuals selling government properties across the state such as Farmland, Grazing Land, Government Houses, Market Stalls, and shops as well as Landed Properties.

According to the statement, the collaborative approach is crucial in ensuring the preservation of public assets and upholding the rule of law

It assured that the Kano State Government remains committed to maintaining transparency, accountability, and the protection of public resources, affirming that any individual found culpable in this illicit activity will face the full force of the law.
