KANSIEC expresses readiness to conduct LG election on Saturday in Kano
The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has reaffirmed its readiness to conduct the scheduled local government elections on Saturday, October 26th, 2024.
SolaceBase reports that KASIEC Chairman, Prof. Sani Malumfashi, announced this on Friday, following a court ruling that upheld the commission’s authority to proceed with the elections.
It could be recalled that a federal high court presided by Justice Simon Amobeda on Tuesday gave a ruling stopping the election and sacking the commission’s chairman with five others.
“A Kano State High Court today ruled in favour of the commission, allowing us to proceed with the election process,” Malumfashi said.

“The court has ordered relevant stakeholders, including the police, to provide security and support for the electoral process.”
Malumfashi emphasized the importance of respecting the court’s decision and ensuring a smooth electoral process.

He noted that several political parties have already participated in the process, including NNPP, ZLP, Accord Party, NRM, AAC, and AA.
He expressed disappointment over the actions of one particular party that has refused to participate in the electoral process. This party, he said, has failed to meet various deadlines, including the purchase of nomination forms, submission of candidate lists, and participation in the primary election.
Malumfashi stressed that the commission has followed due process throughout the electoral process, including the nomination of commissioners, which was approved by the State House of Assembly.
He also highlighted the constitutional mandate for states to conduct local government elections and the federal government’s directive to complete these elections by October 2024.
According to him, the commission remains committed to ensuring a free, fair, and credible election, and it urges all stakeholders to cooperate and support the electoral process.
