KAROTA arrests driver for damaging Kano road beautification flowers

The Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has arrested a driver for violating traffic laws and damaging the flowers used to beautify major roads in Kano metropolis.

SolaceBase reports that the incident occurred along Murtala Muhammad Way on Thursday, where the driver was accused of making an illegal turn and driving over the flowers planted by the Kano State Government as part of its ongoing road beautification project.

Spokesperson of the agency, Malam Abubakar Ibrahim Sharada, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing, stating that the driver flagrantly violated traffic rules and will be prosecuted in court.

Sharada said the legal action is aimed at deterring other motorists from disregarding traffic regulations.

“The driver committed a serious traffic offence. He will be charged to court to serve as a warning to others who may want to defy traffic laws. KAROTA will not fold its arms and allow such reckless behaviour,” Sharada said.

“The government is funding these trees to mitigate climate change and other environmental challenges, so we will not sit back and watch one person destroy efforts meant to benefit thousands,” Sharada stated.

‘’The state government and its agencies have intensified efforts to ensure the survival of the trees that were planted to mitigate the impact of climate change in the state.

He also warned drivers to respect road regulations and avoid acts that endanger the public or damage public property.

The driver was also accused of confronting KAROTA officers and showing signs of defiance during the arrest.
