KHAIRUN matriculates over 360 students for 2025/2026 academic session
A fast-growing private university in North Western Nigeria, Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, Kano (KHAIRUN), on Tuesday matriculated 364 new students for the 2025/2026 academic session, with 65 per cent of the intake being female and 35 per cent male, a development that places the university among the few in the region with a strong female majority.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulrasheed Garba, disclosed this during the university’s 3rd matriculation ceremony, held at the KHAIRUN campus in Kano, where he addressed university management, staff, parents, guardians and the newly admitted students.
Prof. Garba began by paying tribute to the founder of the institution, the late Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu, praying for the repose of his soul and reaffirming the university’s commitment to the values and vision upon which KHAIRUN was established.
He congratulated the new students on securing admission into the university, describing KHAIRUN as an academically sound private institution that operates with the standards of a federal university.

He stressed that admission and academic success at KHAIRUN are strictly based on merit and hard work, noting that there is “no cutting corners” in the university.
SolaceBase reports that the Vice-Chancellor highlighted several administrative and academic reforms introduced to enhance teaching and learning.
These include a strengthened directorate for admissions, examinations and academic records, as well as a proposed directorate dedicated to students’ welfare. He also noted that the university has continued to recruit qualified academic staff in line with statutory requirements.
On facilities, Professor Garba said KHAIRUN provides strong academic support through internet services, libraries and computer facilities. He revealed that the Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso Library has been transformed into a modern e-library, with its collection growing from fewer than 500 books to over 7,000 physical volumes, and its daily opening hours extended to more than 12 hours, including weekends.

He added that the university has also invested in information and communication technology, including smart classrooms, a functional website and about 50 active internet access points across campus to support teaching, learning and independent study.
On security, the Vice-Chancellor assured parents and students that KHAIRUN operates a 24-hour security architecture in collaboration with public security agencies and trained internal personnel to ensure the safety of everyone on campus.
The VC also said the university is fully implementing the Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), while offering additional courses in entrepreneurship, morality and international languages such as Arabic and French to make graduates more competitive and globally relevant.
According to him, the academic philosophy of the university is guided by the founder’s triple-value system of entrepreneurship, Islamic moral values and internationalisation, which aims to produce graduates who are academically sound, morally upright and economically empowered.
He further reminded students of the institution’s strict academic and behavioural standards, including a mandatory 75 per cent lecture attendance requirement before students are allowed to sit for examinations, as well as a ban on mobile phones in lecture halls and examination rooms.
Providing further details of the 2025/2026 intake, Professor Garba said Allied Medical Sciences recorded 239 students, Science and Computing admitted 130 students, while Engineering had 12 students.

He also disclosed that the new students were drawn from 19 states of the federation, describing this as a reflection of KHAIRUN’s growing national recognition.
