The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), Kano, a full operational licence, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s journey as a private university.
Speaking during the official handover of the certificate on Wednesday to the Chairman of the Governing Council, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Abdurashid Garba, described the achievement as the result of years of dedication and commitment by the institution’s founders, management, and staff.
“It has been a long journey that started years ago, and today we are witnessing another historic milestone in the life of this university,” Professor Garba said. “When the NUC team visited in April to validate our licence, they commended the university’s environment, describing it as one of the cleanest they had ever seen. They also noted that KHAIRUN stands out as unique compared to other universities in the country.”

SolaceBase reports that Professor Garba highlighted some of the distinctive features of the university’s academic model, including: “Integration of Quranic recitation into both the administration and curriculum, involving staff and students, a strong focus on entrepreneurship, with practical, field-based courses designed to equip graduates with job-creating skills. And a compulsory French and Arabic courses, aimed at enhancing graduates’ competitiveness in the global job market.”

“These unique features,” he added, “set Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University apart and reflect the vision of the founder and proprietors.”
On his part, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Kabiru Isiyaku, expressed gratitude to the Board of Trustees, management, and stakeholders for their contributions. He stressed that while the full licence was an important milestone, it also signalled the beginning of more rigorous tasks ahead, especially accreditation exercises expected later in the year.

He further commended the philanthropic support of the university’s proprietors, particularly Abdul Samad Isyaku Rabiu, whose contributions, he noted, have elevated the university’s reputation both nationally and internationally.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Chief Imam of Kano, Emeritus Professor Muhammad Sani Zahraddeen, who officially handed over the certificate to Anwar Khalifa Sheikh Isyaku Rabiu, praised the efforts of the university’s management.
