Killer Juice: Kano confirms 10 dead, 400 hospitalized- Official

Kano State Government has said 400 people have been hospitalized and 10 dead due to the consumption of killer juice drinks in the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, announced this on Thursday in a one minute, twenty-two seconds video message cautioning the public to be careful of such water-soluble flavoured drinks with this peculiar period of hot weather and the Ramadan fast.

Solacebase reports that National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) had announced that out that the chemical added to the killer flavoured drink that led to the death of three persons in Kano State contained ‘Hyroxylamine,’ used for terrorism.

Dr Tsanyawa said that over 50 persons are currently undergoing kidney-related treatment in government hospitals with issues related to the consumption of the drinks.

He said in the video: ”As you are aware, the Ministry of Health had in the recent past announced the outbreak of a strange disease traceable to the consumption of substandard juices.”

“The consumption of these fake and substandard products has negative effects on the kidney, and vital organs of the body.”
