The Kogi State Police Command says it has identified those responsible for the abduction of four persons during the attack on Government Secondary School, Olowa Agbajo, in Dekina Local Government Area, adding that security operatives are closing in on the suspects as efforts to arrest them intensify.

This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Bello Kankarofi.

SolaceBase recalls that the development follows the July 14 attack on Government Secondary School, Olowa Agbajo, in Dekina Local Government Area, during which four persons were abducted from an alleged NECO examination centre before being rescued two days later.

According to the statement, the command said the suspects had been identified and that the manhunt had reached an advanced stage following sustained intelligence-led operations.

“With the victims now safely rescued, security operatives are closing in on the suspects, who will be arrested and brought to justice,” the statement said.

The command also announced the commencement of an investigation into what it described as the unauthorized use of the abandoned Government Secondary School as a purported National Examinations Council (NECO) examination centre.

It said anyone found culpable in the matter would face the full weight of the law.

The police disclosed that the investigation followed the successful rescue of the four victims abducted during the July 14 attack on the school, noting that the rescue operation involved a joint security team comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, local vigilantes, hunters and other critical stakeholders.

According to the statement, the coordinated operation was led by the Commissioner of Police alongside the Commander of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lokoja, Brigadier General Kasim Sidi, and the State Security Adviser to the Governor, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd).

The command commended the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, security agencies and local stakeholders for their collaboration, which it said contributed to the successful rescue operation.

It also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information, reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
