L-PRESS lauds Kano’s progress in livestock sector development
The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRESS) has lauded Kano State for its outstanding potential and commitment, naming it one of two states to host a livestock service centre.
Sunusi Abubakar, the National Project Coordinator for L-PRESS, made this known on Tuesday during a visit to the Kano State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
SolaceBase reports that, while the other state selected is Bauchi, the visit was part of the project’s fourth implementation support mission.
Abubakar said, “We are here to assess the progress of implementation in Kano. This is the fourth state we’ve visited after Kogi, Ekiti, and Kaduna.
“Our aim is to evaluate the implementation, provide advice where necessary, and commend areas of success,” he added.

He emphasized Kano’s suitability for the project, citing its vast livestock resources and population.
“In our project appraisal document, Kano is one of the two states selected to host a livestock service centre.
“These centres are designed to enhance livestock activities, and we are pleased to observe the progress so far,” he added.
Abubakar also praised the state government’s commitment to the project, particularly the efforts of the Commissioner for Agriculture.
“We are confident of smooth implementation in Kano due to the strong support we’ve received from the government.
“Even before our visit, the state has been performing excellently in resolving conflicts between herders and farmers, a feat recognized across the northern region,” he stated.

In his response, Kano State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Danjuma Mahmud, expressed satisfaction with the visit.
The commissioner assured the L-PRESS team of the state’s dedication to achieving the project’s objectives.

“The L-PRESS national coordination team is here to assess our progress. Tomorrow, they will visit other locations to verify the achievements we’ve made so far.
“We are proud to share the efforts we’ve undertaken to advance the livestock sector,” Mahmud said.
He highlighted other initiatives in the sector, including those supported by the Islamic Development Bank, noting that the L-PRESS project would complement these efforts.
“The World Bank’s involvement will amplify the gains already achieved, creating a robust and sustainable livestock sector in Kano,” he added.
