Lagos House of Assembly gets first female speaker

Making history, following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday, a replacement has been elected in the person of Mojisola Meranda

Meranda, a former deputy Speaker, was sworn in immediately to take charge of the affairs of the House. She is the first female lawmaker to occupy the position in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Mrs Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency 1, was also a former chief whip of the house.

Mojeed Fatai is now the Deputy Speaker of the State’s House of Assembly.

Recalls that Obasa was impeached over alleged corrupt practices.
