More than twenty health personnel of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) who had direct contact with a patient who had Lassa fever have tested negative.
Similarly, others screened as a result of contact tracing have also tested negative, with the exception of the husband of the patient who tested positive.
This was disclosed by the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee of the hospital, Professor Muhammad Abba Suwaid, in a statement signed by Maryam Aminu Usman, Chief Information Officer, on Saturday.
Prof. Suwaid said the staff were temporarily isolated and their blood samples collected for investigation. The result showed that none of them was infected.

The negative result was due to the diligence and professionalism of AKTH Staff in attending to patients generally.
SolaceBase reports that Prof Suwaid further explained that the Management of the hospital went into swift action after confirming a case of Lassa fever on a 22-year-old pregnant woman who was brought to the Hospital on April 5, 2025.
He said the management took all necessary precautionary measures to curtail the spread of the disease in the hospital and environs.
Meanwhile, the management of the hospital had earlier notified the Kano State Epidemiology Unit for the contact tracing in Garum Malam Local Government Area, from where the patient was brought to the Hospital.
Report says the patient’s husband, who tested positive and is currently under the Care of the Kano State Epidemiology Unit.
