Lecturers of another Kano govt owned varsity declare two weeks strike

Lecturers under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil in Kano have commenced a two weeks warning strike.

The lecturers said the strike became necessary over the state government’s nonchalant attitude to their demands.

It could be recalled that ASUU members at Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano, earlier on Wednesday declared a two-week warning strike.

This was contained in a statement issued by ASUU branch Chairman and acting Secretary, Dr. Aliyu Yusuf Ahmad and Dr Ya’u Sabo Ajingi, on Wednesday.

‘’Following series of futile efforts between ASUU, KUST-Wudil with the University Administration and Kano State Government on issues pertaining the University Autonomy, condition of service, and funding among others. Despite the intervention of several stakeholders including the Zonal and National leadership of ASUU, the Kano State Government appears unwilling to address the branch demands, ‘’the statement said.

The statement said to that effect, the Congress of ASUU-KUST, Wudil arising from the SPECIAL CONGRESS meeting held on Wednesday 29th May, 2024 resolved to embark on two weeks warning strike with immediate effect.

SolaceBase reports that the demands of the union include non-reinstatement of the University Governing Council, non-payment of outstanding entitlements and gross underfunding of the University, among others.

The statement said to avoid further escalation of the matter, the branch is using this medium to appeal to well-meaning people of Kano State and Nigeria to prevail on the government to attend to the issues above
