MAAUN Founder urges FG to name varsity after Dantata

The Founder of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Gwarzo, has called on the Federal Government to immortalize the late business mogul and elder statesman, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, by naming a university in the North-West zone after him.

Gwarzo made this passionate appeal on Wednesday, citing Dantata’s tremendous contributions to education during his lifetime.

He described Dantata’s philanthropic legacy in education as extraordinary, with his investments in education, donations to institutions, and sponsorship of scholarships for underprivileged students.

“I am calling on the Federal Government of Nigeria to immortalise the late Alhaji Aminu Dantata by naming a university in the region after him in view of his contributions to the education sector in particular,” he said.

He noted that Dantata’s selfless service and contributions to education should be recognized as one of his lasting legacies.

“Dantata invested heavily in education– donated funds and buildings to various institutions. Through Dantata Foundation and other initiatives, he sponsored scholarships for underprivileged students, and he was the first Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Katsina.

“So, immortalising the late elder statesman will be highly welcome and appreciated by all those who benefitted from his philanthropic gesture and many others,” Prof. Gwarzo added.

KANO ACRESAL PROJECT

The MAAUN Founder expressed deep sorrow over Dantata’s passing, describing it as a painful and irreplaceable loss to Nigeria.

He recalled that the MAAUN Kano School of Health Sciences was named after Dantata in 2023 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to education and healthcare development and prayed that Allah grants him Aljannatul Firdaus and comforts those he left behind.
