Man gets 15 strokes of cane for stealing two phones in church

Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced Kingsley Timothy, a 23-year-old man, to 15 strokes of the cane for stealing two phones worth N650,000 in a church.

The convict, a resident of Narayi, Kaduna State, was arraigned on a two-count charge of theft to which he pleaded guilty and pleaded for leniency.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced the convict to 15 strokes of the cane and advised him to be of good behaviour.

Emmanuel also warned him to desist from committing crimes, as the court would not be lenient with him next time.

PROMISES-DELIVERED

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo told the court that Richard Samuel of Christ Life Ministry, Kaduna, reported the matter at the Narayi Police Station on Nov. 15.

Leo said the convict stole a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and an Infinix phone all valued at N650,000, belonging to the complainant while he was charging them  in the church.

The prosecutor said the convict was caught after the theft and handed over to the police.

He said the offence contravened Section 217 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017. (NAN)
