MATA Network to train 500 Kano schoolgirls in digital skills, NTIC eyes collaboration
About 500 secondary school girls in Kano are set to receive training in digital skills and ICT from The MATA Network, a women’s and girl-child empowerment organization.
The initiative, part of the 2025 MATA Moment with the Girls (MMG) Project 500, aims to equip young girls in SS2 and SS3 with essential digital competencies, preparing them for productive engagements during their transition to tertiary education.
Announcing the project during an International Women’s Day event at Skyline University, The MATA Network’s founder, Yasmin Obadaki, emphasized the importance of digital skills for young girls.
“We want to ensure that girls in secondary school are not left behind in the digital revolution. The MMG Project 500 will provide them with the skills they need to navigate the digital space and create opportunities for themselves,” she said.

Speaking on Empowering Women Through Digital Spaces – Harnessing Social Media for Positive Change, Obadaki encouraged women to embrace technology despite its challenges.

“Social media and digital platforms are powerful tools, but they must be used wisely. Women should harness them for personal growth, professional networking, and positive engagement,” she added.
SolaceBase reports that the event, held on March 14, 2025, featured discussions on women’s education, health, and collaboration as a tool for faster and more impactful development.

Dignitaries present include Skyline University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Ajith Kumar V.V, and Director of Public and Government Relations, Ms. Sarada Maganti.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC) Kano has expressed interest in collaborating with The MATA Network to advance girl-child empowerment.
During an Iftar dinner hosted for MATA representatives on March 16, NTIC’s management commended the organization for its efforts and explored potential areas of partnership.
“We recognize the critical role The MATA Network plays in empowering young girls, and we are open to collaborations that will further this cause,” said NTIC’s Principal of the Secondary Section, Abdussamed Dursun.

In response, Obadaki highlighted key areas for partnership, including the MMG Project 500 and The MATA Network’s upcoming grand conference in December 2025.
“We deeply appreciate NTIC’s support and interest in working with us. Collaboration is key to driving meaningful change, and we look forward to impactful projects together,” she stated.
Founded in Kano in 2018, The MATA Network continues to champion digital literacy and empowerment for women and girls, ensuring they are equipped to navigate the evolving digital landscape.
