NBA commends Gov Yusuf’s probe into commissioner’s suretyship of ‘notorious drug dealer’ bail
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ungogo Branch, has praised Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for swiftly establishing a probe committee to investigate allegations that a cabinet member and a commissioner, Ibrahim Namadi, stood surety for a suspected drug baron currently facing trial at the Federal High Court in Kano.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the branch chairman, Ahmad Abubakar Gwadabe, the association described the governor’s move as both prompt and courageous, noting that it reflects a serious commitment to addressing drug-related crimes.
The NBA expressed deep concern over the allegation, warning that any form of official complicity in drug trafficking undermines the rule of law and threatens public safety.
The statement read in part, “Drug-related crimes are closely linked to rising insecurity, youth delinquency, and numerous social vices.
“Such crimes fuel violence, endanger public health, and corrode the moral foundation of society.”

While commending the governor’s initiative, the lawyers called on the state government to ensure the investigation is transparent by making the committee’s findings public.
They also urged the probe committee members to carry out their work with professionalism, integrity, and impartiality — though the terms of reference for the investigation have not yet been disclosed.
The Ungogo branch reaffirmed its commitment to justice, ethical governance, and the protection of the public interest, pledging continued support for efforts to uphold the rule of law and combat the spread of drug abuse in the state.
