The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has arrested two young men for allegedly attempting to smuggle illicit drugs, including Indian hemp, to inmates at the Nomansland Court Complex in Kano.

The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nassarawa, on behalf of the Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command.

According to the statement, the suspects, identified as Usman Khalid, 25, and Bello Musa Ahmed, 24, both residents of the Tsamiya (Breget) area of Kano State, were apprehended by officers attached to the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse.

They were reportedly caught while attempting to throw Indian hemp and other illicit substances to inmates within the court premises.

The Command warned members of the public to desist from intermingling with inmates, particularly during their movement to and from court, noting that such actions constitute a serious security breach and are punishable under the law.

It stressed that the NCoS remains committed to the rehabilitation and reformation of inmates and will not tolerate any act capable of undermining this mandate.

“Following the arrest, the Controller of Corrections, Ado Inuwa, directed the Legal Unit and the Intelligence Unit of the Command to hand over the suspects and the recovered substances to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for thorough investigation and prosecution.”

The Command further reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on drug-related activities within custodial centres and court environments across Kano State, urging the public to continue cooperating with security agencies to ensure the maintenance of law and order.
