Kano: NCoS, REMASAB join forces to boost custodial centre hygiene

The Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) is set to enhance community service delivery and hygiene standards in custodial centres through a strengthened partnership with the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB).

MB Umar, ASC 2 I/C CPRO, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the Head of the Non-Custodial Unit, Assistant Controller of Corrections (ACC) Musa Muhammad Kibiya, recently paid a working visit to the Managing Director of REMASAB, Dr. Muhammad S. Khalil.

The meeting focused on identifying areas of collaboration and developing a more effective framework for community service operations and sanitation activities within the state’s custodial facilities.

During the visit, ACC Kibiya commended the REMASAB leadership for their warm reception and expressed gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration for its continued support of the welfare of custodial centres.

“We are looking forward to deeper collaboration with REMASAB, especially in designing and implementing robust community service programmes that can also relieve congestion in our facilities,” he said.

He also called on members of the judiciary to consider assigning traffic offenders and first-time offenders to REMASAB for non-custodial punishment as a measure to promote restorative justice.

In response, Dr. Khalil described the visit as a significant step toward cleaner and healthier correctional environments.

He assured that REMASAB is ready to support the NCoS whenever necessary and encouraged custodial centres to maintain regular sanitation exercises to ensure serene and hygienic facilities.

The partnership signals a concerted effort by both agencies to improve the standards of correctional centres in Kano State while reinforcing community service initiatives that benefit the wider society.
