Nigerian governor raises minimum wage to N70,000

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo on Monday announced a new minimum wage for civil servants in the state.

The Governor who disclosed this on Monday at the commissioning of Labour House, announced that the new wage would take effect from 1 May 2024.

Obaseki said that his administration would increase minimum wage for the state workers from N40,000 to N70,000.

He said the details of the new minimum wage would be made known to the public on this year’ Workers’ Day coming up on Wednesday, 1 May 2024 in the country.

Meanwhile, the new Labour House which was built by the state government for organised Labour, namely, Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress, was named after the immediate past Governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole.
