NiMet warns of heavy rainfall, flash floods across 15 states including FCT
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a Heavy Rainfall Forecast Bulletin, alerting the public to expect moderate to heavy rains from Wednesday, May 28, to Friday, May 30, 2025.
According to the bulletin issued on Tuesday, the rainfall may lead to flash flooding in parts of the country.
SolaceBase reports that these include Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, Ondo, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Imo, Abia, the Federal Capital Territory, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Niger.
NiMet warned that the rainfall in these areas is expected to exceed 50mm in 24 hours in some locations, with a probability of more than 60%.
Other places are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, while very light or no rain is forecast for the rest of the country.

The agency cautioned the public about the risk of flash floods, strong winds, slippery road surfaces, and reduced visibility, all of which could disrupt road traffic and pose threats to lives and property.
It also urged residents to avoid driving through surface runoff, as these waters may have strong undercurrents.
“Strong winds are a threat to weak structures, trees, and masts,” the bulletin warned, advising people to disconnect electrical appliances before—not during—the rain.
