2022: NNPP, APC trade words over violent attacks in Kano

The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), has decried series of alleged attacks on its members by suspected All Progressive Congress APC thugs in Kano state.

Kano NNPP Chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, made the allegation at a news conference held at the party secretariat, on Sunday.

Doguwa lamented that, suspected APC thugs that include: Abba Dagi, Junaidu and Shehi under the leadership of Sani Abdullahi Abas popularly known as Orchi yesterday and today, Sunday, severally allegedly attacked Chiranchi injuring many of its members, in Gwale Local Government Area of the state.

“After the attack of yesterday, the gang under Orchi also allegedly launched another attack on one Baffa Faruk with machete on the head and currently receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital ,” he said.

Doguwa said they were informed that the APC under the leadership of the State Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas had a meeting on Saturday, where a decision was allegedly taken to intensify the attacks on innocent residents and other political party members especially, NNPP, so as to frustrate the conduct of general elections in the state.

Similarly, he accused the Divisional Police Officers of Gwale and Mandawari divisions of not taking actions over the attacks when the incidents were reported.

He appealed to the new Commissioner of Police, Mamman Dauda, to caution the said officers who he alleged of complicity in the incidents.

“We have a series of reports and complaints presented to the DPOs over attacks on our dear members, but unfortunately the officer did not do anything,” he said.

Reacting to the allegations, Kano APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas denied holding any meeting with the aim of creating violence so that general elections would not hold in the state.

‘’This accusation is funny, because we that we are very sure of wining next year elections. So why would we want to prevent the elections from taking place,‘’ Abbas said.

Abdullahi Abbas said the NNPP were crying wolf, as the APC is the party that is supposed to accuse them of attacking residents.

‘’Yesterday when the NNPP governorship candidate, Abba Kabiru Yusuf went for a wedding program, deliberately, he passed through the frontage of my house and his thugs destroyed billboards of APC around and injured two residents,‘’ Abdullahi Abbas alleges.

‘’Also today. Sunday, another attack was carried out by the NNPP around my house close to Galadanchi area, in the metropolis and luckily, one of the attackers was arrested by the police.’’

”All we want is for the police to interrogate and find out from the suspect arrested who sent them.”

Also, when SOLACEBASE contacted, Spokesman, Kano Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, over allegation against DPOs of Gwale and Mandawari in the metropolis by the NNPP, he requested to be given some little time to find out the situation.

Kiyawa later called this newspaper denying official complaints by the NNPP at the two police divisions.

The command image maker said the party leaders in the state regularly meet with the police command and they have the contacts of the police command management team that they can as well intimate of such development if it does happen.

”You see the newly posted Commissioner of Police has made it a tradition of personally going round the town to supervise and observe situation of things to ensure peaceful electioneering period and a hitch free general elections next year,” Kiyawa added.
