School Security: NSCDC inaugurates 60 special female squad in Kano

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command has inaugurated 60 special female squads to enhance security in schools.

Speaking at the inauguration of the squad, NSCDC state Commandant, Mr Muhammad Lawal-Falala, said the squad were trained specifically to tackle insecurity, banditry, rape, and other criminal activities.

According to him, females don’t take the issue of rape lightly; therefore, they are the best group that will fight the menace.

He explained that the female squad was first commissioned in 2022 at the Corps National Headquarters by the Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar-Audi.

“After a comprehensive study was conducted nationwide, it was discovered that many schools were vulnerable, which made them prone to attack by terrorists and bandits.

“The result of the research revealed that most schools in the country do not have security, either government or private security,” he said.

He said that the special squad would be deployed to primary and secondary schools, as well as tertiary institutions to ensure a safe learning environment.

Lawal-Falala urged the squad to uphold a high sense of professionalism in discharging their duties.

He commended Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf of Kano, for his unflinching support and creating the enabling environment that engenders peace in the state.

The Commander called on the NSCDC Commandant General, to deploy more female squads to Kano command.

He also appealed to women in the state to apply and join the Female Squad when the corps portal is opened.

“It is an opportunity for you to join and assist women and children to ensure safety in schools,” Lawal-Falala said

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the squad showcased drill exercises on Commando patrol, stripling, and assembling of rifles and in-box demonstration. (NAN)
