The Jigawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has constituted two key committees: the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee and the Committee on Education and Training.

SolaceBase reports that the move is aimed at strengthening professionalism and enhancing capacity among media practitioners.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Council’s Secretary, Comrade Aisha Abba Ahmed, on Thursday, who described the initiative as a significant step toward upholding journalistic standards and fostering a culture of continuous professional development.

According to the statement, the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee will be chaired by Comrade Sabo Abdullahi Guri, with Comrade Mati Ali, Dr. Musa Idris Barnawa, and Yusuf Sulaiman serving as members. Muhammad Askira Musa will serve as the committee’s secretary.

The committee has been tasked with the critical responsibility of ensuring adherence to journalistic ethics, addressing issues of professional misconduct, and promoting integrity within the media landscape of Jigawa State.

In a related development, the Council also announced the constitution of a seven-member Committee on Education and Training, to be chaired by Comrade Sani Labaran Salisu. Other members include Garba Yakubu, Ado Lurwan, Aliyu Dangida, Mustafa Namadi, and Balarabe Sani, while Shuaibu Aliyu will serve as the secretary.

The training committee is charged with enhancing the capacity of journalists through workshops, seminars, and other forms of professional development. It is also mandated to ensure that media practitioners in the state remain equipped with modern tools, techniques, and knowledge necessary for effective reporting.

Speaking on the development, the Chairman of the NUJ Jigawa Council, Comrade Ismail Ibrahim Dutse, said the formation of the two committees reflects the union’s unwavering commitment to professionalism, accountability, and excellence in journalism.

He called on all members of the union to give their full support and cooperation to the newly inaugurated committees to enable them to achieve their mandates for the collective good of the union and the journalism profession in the state.
