Open letter to NPC Chairman over planned census

*Open Letter to Chairman, Commissioners, and all Directors of National Population Commission, Nigeria.*

AN APPEAL FOR CHANGE OF DATE FOR THE 2023 POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS SLATED BETWEEN (28March to 2nd April, 2023) WHICH FALLS IN THE SACRED MONTH OF RAMADAN

With due respect Sirs, as we all know that  Population and Housing Census are very important sources of statistical data for overall National Planning and Development.

However, this important exercise is slated to hold between *28th March to 2nd April, 2023,  which falls within the month of Ramadan* when Muslims are expected to commence the 2023 Ramadan Fasting.

Moreover, the weather forecast shows that Month of March is going to be very hot in the North east and west of the country with an estimated temperature of over *40°c* degree Celsius.

Consequently, I really believed that conducting this important exercise within *Ramadan* period will definitely affect the quality, credibility and acceptability of the census exercise in the country especially in the Northern part. Partly because of the time and energy needed from both the enumerators and the respondents to conduct the exercise.

I should be most grateful if my request is considered and approved.

Thanks

*Dr. Mustapha Sani*
