A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Gombe State, Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, has withdrawn from the party’s governorship primary election scheduled for 21 May, citing alleged violations of the Electoral Act 2026 and irregularities in the process.
Pantami announced his withdrawal in a statement issued on Tuesday by Barrister Ibrahim M. Attahir on behalf of the Pantamiyya Movement, saying the decision followed concerns over what he described as a lack of transparency and failure by party officials to provide key information for the conduct of a credible primary.

The statement said the former minister joined the race after appeals from political leaders, youths, women and other stakeholders in the state, and that he complied with all requirements and procedures set by the party.
It added that letters sent by his legal team to relevant party organs seeking details on accreditation of agents, voting procedures and collation centres were not responded to, despite repeated requests.

Pantami also alleged irregularities in the recent APC National Assembly direct primaries in Gombe, claiming that results were announced without actual voting in some areas, a development he said cast doubt on the credibility of the governorship primary scheduled for 21 May.

He thanked supporters, particularly youths who contributed funds for the purchase of his nomination forms, as well as women groups, coordinators and members of the Pantamiyya Movement for their support.

The statement added that the movement would announce its next political steps in due course, while urging supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
