PDP: Atiku, Fintiri receive thousands of defectors in Adamawa

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has received thousands of defectors from different political parties in Adamawa State.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and PDP presidential candidate, received the defectors at a ceremony in Yola on Monday.

A statement issued by his Special Assistant, (Media & Broadcasting), AbdulRasheed Shehu, said Abubakar assured them of equity and justice in their new party.

“We expect you to work assiduously towards our victory in the 2023 general elections,” he said.

He said that since the ban on electioneering campaign was still in force, the PDP as a law abiding party would wait for the appropriate time for the commencement of its campaign.

Abubakar said that he joined the presidential race because of his desire to serve the people of Nigerians.

“My visit today is just a home coming because I have not been home since when I won the primary election of my party, ” he said.

He equally urged the defectors to give maximum support to the governor of the state, Ahmadu Fintiri, who has demonstrated the zeal to make life better for the people of the state and reassured them that the Governor will not fail in providing dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Hon. Shuabu Babas pledged their loyalty to the PDP and equally expressed their support for the candidature of the Wazirin Adamawa.

The defectors stated that their decision to decamp to the PDP was influenced by the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the PDP candidate, whom they described as the unifier standard bearer.

In a remark at the occasion, the former vice-president noted the importance of the event which was not for campaign but a joyous home coming for his  brothers and sisters who decided on their own to join the PDP family. He stated that the PDP is a very big umbrella that is always ready to accommodate everyone at all times.

In his address, the PDP national chairman Senator Iyorchia Ayu, congratulated the defectors for taking a wise decision to join the party and reassured them that the PDP is currently working to consolidate on the progress it has made since the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the presidential standard bearer of the party in the 2023 general elections.

While handing the defectors to the state Governor, the Chairman encouraged them to support the PDP in all the elections and ensure the victory of  the party at the polls, come 2023.
