PHOTOS: Heaps of refuse block major roads in Kano

The commercial nerve centre of northern Nigeria and the most populous state in the country, Kano is witnessing heaps of refuse blocking major roads.

The situation is not new as the immediate past administration of former governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje did a little to address the situation.

Also, since the coming of the Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, led government on May 29th , 2023, not much has been done in this direction.

The heaps of refuse at almost every part of the city spanned from Isyaku Rabiu by Ibrahim Taiwo road to Yan Kura market by the flyover and New road by old luxurious motor park, among others.

It could be recalled that some states in the country recorded outbreak of Diphtheria disease early in the year with Kano having the highest death of 61 in March,2023, this according to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

Similarly, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) attributed poor hygiene and low vaccination coverage to the outbreak.

Abdullahi Balarabe , a Kano resident told SOLACEBASE that the heaps of refuse in some areas have completely blocked passage for vehicular movement.

‘’The situation is worrisome as the heaps of refuse poses health challenges to us not to talk of the nauseating offensive smell that comes from the refuse,’’ Balarabe lamented.

Also, another resident , Mariya Umar said the situation is as if there is no government as the heaps of refuse on major roads in the metropolis are increasing daily.

SOLACEBASE observation around Kano metropolis on Saturday confirmed the development as heaps of refuse are now on major roads in the town.
