PHOTOS: Parents laud Barau as 70 foreign scholarship beneficiaries depart for India
Seventy beneficiaries of Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I Jibrin foreign scholarship scheme on Sunday departed the International wing of the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, on-board Ethiopian Airline en route India via Addis Ababa.
SolaceBase reports that it was a moment of joy and excitement for the beneficiaries, parents and the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I Jibrin as the journey to advance the academic career of the 70 Kano indigenes selected across the state took another leap.

Abdullahi Aliyu Musa, father of one of the beneficiaries who was overwhelmed with joy said the whole exercise is just like a dream to him.
Musa told SolaceBase at the airport that it was a friend that intimated him about the Barau Foundation Scholarship scheme.
‘’Immediately I was told I asked my son to apply online and he was subsequently selected after going through the screening,’’ Musa said.
‘’I was surprised that without knowing anybody in the process of selection that my son can be chosen. Although he is qualified because he possesses all the requirements but I was elated that without lobbying he scaled through.’’

‘’He is going there to study for a Master in Cyber Security which has been his dream since after graduation from the university.’’
Also, Muhammad Ibrahim father of another beneficiary prayed for the sponsor of the program, Senator Barau Jibrin for granting his son the opportunity of a foreign scholarship.
‘’Honestly my son has never travelled out of Kano except for his NYSC, talk less of travelling by air. As I speak with you, this is my first time of been at this airport, Ibrahim from Madobi local government said.
‘’My son is sponsored to study for a Master’s in cybersecurity. I am not a politician or a rich man neither do I know anybody in relation to my son securing this opportunity, I give glory to God and Barau that made it a reality.’’
‘’I pray that my son and other beneficiaries will all be successful so that they can do the same for those coming behind them in future.’’
Two of the beneficiaries Bello Jibrin Baba and Ibrahim Abdullahi Aliyu, both from Ungogo local government area, promised not to betray the confidence reposed in them.

‘’We cannot thank the Deputy Senate President more for the gesture but rather we pray that Almighty God will reward him for this good deed.’’
Addressing the 70 beneficiaries at the airport Senator Barau said the initiative was borne out of concern for the development of education in the northern region.
‘’The initiative is part of my efforts to address existing educational gaps and fast-track our country’s development. Globally, human capital is the number one asset, and it is against this backdrop that we have taken this step.
“Our youths are our greatest asset, and we recognise the vital role of human capital in developing every nation; ours is not an exception.
“In this regard, I feel that the best action is to support what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing by providing access to education for the less privileged youth.
“Once they return, I will continue my efforts to provide the necessary support for them to be successful. This is part of an all-inclusive approach for their education and empowerment.
“Because of my passion for this project, I decided to be present to send you off and offer that fatherly support
“Everything is top-notch. They are going to top-notch universities and well-established universities. Some are even going to national universities, not private ones. They will come back as first-class scholars, Insha Allah,” Senator Barau stated.
