PHOTOS: WOFAN inaugurates solar powered boreholes in two Kano communities

Women Farmers Advancement Network { WOFAN} has inaugurated two solar-powered boreholes for two communities, Tofa and Doka, in Tofa local government area of Kano State.

Solacebase reports that the two solar boreholes provided by WOFAN with the support of the Small Grant Project of the global Environment Facilities (SGP-GPE) with the aim of protecting the environment sustainably as well as provide access to safe drinking water and for irrigation activities.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the inauguration, WOFAN Executive Director Hajiya Salamatu Garba said the two solar boreholes has ten reticulated points for domestic water and ten reticulated channels for mosque purposes.

‘’ As a result of the constraints faced by the community members, especially women and children, searching for water has become a daily challenge, it is a community where we carry on a lot of activities with the women, so this encouraged us to find a way to provide water for them, we were lucky to go into partnership with  Small Grant Project of the Global Environment Facilities (SGP-GPE), so in partnership with WOFAN, we have contributed this two solar borehole,’’ Hajiya Salamatu Garba.

She added that the construction of the two boreholes cost over eight million naira each as a result of inflation and the determination for qualitative facilities to stand the test of time.

On his part, the chairman Tofa Local Government Council, Alhaji Nafi’u Garba Yarimawa, urged the Community members to own up the two solar boreholes by protecting them from vandals as the initiative will in no small measure reduce access to clean water

In a remark, the Makaman Bichi and District Head of Tofa,  Alhaji Isiyaku Umar Tofa, applauded the gesture of the organisations noting that it will be beneficial to many people in the communities.
