Police arraign 29 suspects over killing of Kano DPO
The Kano State Police Command has arraigned 29 suspects in connection with the gruesome killing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Rano Division, CSP Baba Ali, who was lynched during a violent uprising in Rano Local Government Area of the State.
A statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa,on Thursday said the suspects were arraigned before Magistrate Court Number 20 at Noman’sland, Kano, following a thorough investigation into the incident.
The statement said fourteen of the suspects have been charged with culpable homicide and related offences, including criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, mischief by fire, criminal trespass, causing grievous hurt, and theft.

Those charged in connection with the killing of the DPO included Bala Yusuf, Bala Mohammed, Abdulrashid Ibrahim, Abdullahi Salisu Kere, Sadiq Buhari, Yunusa Adamu, Musa Minkaila, Mamuda Mohammed, Ismail Mamuda, Usman Shu’aibu, Musa Hassan Black, Abdulrashid Munkail, Umar Ado Nadada, and Sabitu Abubakar. All 14 are residents of Rano Local Government Area.

In addition to the prime suspects, 15 others were charged with offences related to the unrest, including criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, and mischief.
The Police Command reassured the public that justice will be pursued. “In light of this incident, the Command urges the public to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.” the statement read.
