By Abdul Isah

Some youth in Sharada Ja’en in Gwale local government area of Kano State on Sunday matched to a factory in the area to protest the death of one of the company’s staff and a member of the community, Mohammad Tukur Adamu by a co-worker during fisticuffs.

An eye witness told SOLACEBASE that Tukur allegedly died after a fight broke out between him and a colleague whom he confirmed has been arrested by the police.

According to him, members of his community attempted to take over the company’s premises to demand justice over the death of their ward, almost leading to a breakdown of law and order in the area.

He added that it took the intervention of police operatives, who used tear gas to disperse the protesting youth as well as to stop the violent protest from escalating to a more serious public disturbance.

He said, “Even with the intervention of the police to avert a possible breakdown of law and order, the protesting youth had refused to vacate the area, as they kept insisting that the alleged perpetrator of the crime must be arrested and prosecuted.”

Seeking justice over the death of her son, the victim’s mother, Rabiat Sulaiman, said Tukur is the breadwinner of the family and her only surviving son after losing three of her children already.

With a heavy heart, the mother said “he is my first and only surviving son, the breadwinner of the family and my only hope but someone has taken him away from me.”

“What will happen to us now, his wife and children?”

SOLACEBASE gathered that Mohammad Tukur Adamu quarreled with another staff of the company whom they worked on night shift together over some sacks produced by the company.

The issue was subsequently addressed and they went back to work.

However, after the close of work on Sunday morning, the two colleagues engaged each other in physical combat outside the company premises and in the course of the fight, the deceased was hit a blow and fell.

Confirming the development to SOLACEBASE, Kano Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the deceased was confirmed dead at the hospital, while the colleague they fought together has been arrested for further investigation.
