Kano: Police arrest suspect over armed robbery, murder

A 20-year-old man has been arrested by the Kano Police Command in connection with a deadly armed robbery attack that claimed the life of a 30-year-old resident of Danbare Quarters, Kano.

SolaceBase reports that the development was disclosed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on Sunday, May 5, 2025, around 6:40 am when two suspected armed robbers invaded the residence of the victim, Shehu Muhammad, and attacked him with a long, sharp cutlass, inflicting multiple injuries.

Following the report, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, immediately deployed operational teams and detectives to the scene.

PROMISES-DELIVERED

The victim was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

One of the suspects, identified as Aliyu Umar, was apprehended at the scene, and the weapon allegedly used in the attack was recovered.

The police said the suspect is currently assisting in the investigation and will be charged to court upon completion.

The command also assured the public of its continued efforts to maintain peace and security, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the dedicated phone lines.

The police further commended members of the community for their swift response in reporting the incident and aiding the arrest of the suspect.
