Police arrest suspected drug dealer, recover tramadol worth N25m in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected drug trafficker and recovered illicit drugs, including Tramadol tablets valued at N25 million.

The police said that the arrest follows intensified patrol efforts and intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing drug-related crimes across the state.

This was contained in a press release issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Friday.

The statement detailed that the arrest was made in line with the directives of Deputy Commissioner of Police Abubakar Zubairu and the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

According to the release, on July 31, 2022, at about 10:30 pm, a police team led by CSP Mohammed Yakubu, DPO of Badawa Division, intercepted a white, unregistered 2016 Honda Accord along Ahmadu Bello Way.

The vehicle, driven by one Abba Musa, 30, of Rijiyar Zaki Quarters, was found to contain 500 packets of suspected Tramadol tablets concealed in the boot.

During interrogation, Abba Musa confessed that the vehicle belonged to his friend, Sulaiman Danwawu, 29, also from Rijiyar Zaki.

He claimed Sulaiman instructed him to deliver the vehicle to someone at Yan Kaba Quarters.

‘’Police later arrested Sulaiman, who admitted ownership of the drugs and said he transported them from Onitsha, Anambra State, for distribution in Kano,’’ the statement said.

In a related development, on May 7, 2025, a separate operation led by the officer in charge of the Anti-kidnapping Unit was carried out based on credible intelligence.

A search warrant was executed at the residence of one Suleiman Aminu Danwawo at Casablanca Close, Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano.

Items recovered during the raid included four cartons and four packets of pregabalin tablets, 14 Tramadol tablets, 25 bottles of codeine syrup, three pieces of Raphanol, an unspecified quantity of D5 tablets, and two motor vehicles.

The Deputy Commissioner Abubakar Zubairu directed that both cases be transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department, Narcotics Section, for discreet investigation.

He reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for drug trafficking and warned criminals to repent or leave the state.

Residents were urged to report suspicious activities and refrain from taking the law into their hands.
