Violence on Sallah Day: Police investigate Emir Sanusi over alleged defiance to ban on durbar

Kano State Police Commissioner, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, on Wednesday inaugurated an eight-member Special Investigation Panel (SIP) to investigate violence that erupted during the procession of the entourage of 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, after Eid-el-Fitr prayers on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the panel was tasked with uncovering the root causes of the violence and determining whether there was defiance of the Command’s ban on all forms of Durbar or horse-riding throughout the Sallah festivities.

SolaceBase had reported that the Police banned all durbar activities last Friday due to security concerns in the state.

However, on Eid Day, an incident reportedly claimed the life of a vigilante member, Surajo Rabiu, from Sabo Titi Jaba Quarters, while another individual, Aminu Suleman from Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammad Hospital in Kano.

The Special Investigation Panel has been directed to expedite its findings to ensure that justice is served. “Anyone found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” the release stated.

The Police Command reiterated its ban on all forms of thuggery and warned that anyone found engaging in such activities will be dealt with decisively.
