The Kano State Police Command has arrested 51 suspected thugs and recovered dangerous weapons and illicit drugs during a clearance operation across various criminal hideouts in the metropolis.

A statement on Monday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, announced the development.

According to the statement, the operation, which took place between Friday, June 13 and Sunday, June 15, 2025, covered areas within Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale, and Tarauni Local Government Areas, including Kofar Mata, Zage, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Dorayi, Hotoro, and Sheka Quarters.

The police said the offensive was part of the Command’s renewed commitment to tackling thuggery and other associated crimes in the state.

SolaceBase reports that the suspects, whose names and ages were listed in the statement, include individuals from various parts of Kano metropolis, some of them as young as 15 years old.

The statement also carried a strong warning from the Commissioner of Police against the public display of weapons in the name of traditional performances such as Kidan Gangi, or on social media platforms including TikTok, Facebook, X (Twitter), and Instagram.

Such acts, according to the Command, promote thuggery and entice minors into crime.

CP Bakori cautioned that parents who shield their children or allow them to keep dangerous weapons at home would face investigation, alongside blacksmiths who manufacture such arms.

He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour.
