Police nab notorious arms dealer, kill three bandits in Katsina

Police operatives in Katsina State have killed three armed bandits and arrested two others along with a notorious arms dealer.

They were said to have been terrorising many villages and communities in Kankara and Bakori Local Government Areas of Katsina State.

Katsina Police Spokesman, SP Gambo Isah who disclosed this on Monday during a press briefing held at the Command headquarters said, in the process of killing the three bandits, one AK 49 rifle, 160 cows, 174 sheep and two motorcycles were also recovered.

“Today at about 04:00 hrs based on credible intelligence, DPO Kankara division led a team of policemen to Mararrabar Gurbi, a notorious cattle route used by bandits based on the report that bandits armed with sophisticated weapons are passing with rustled domestic animals.

“Fortunately, the hoodlums were intercepted and on sighting the police operatives, they engaged them in a gun duel.

“As a result of which three bandits were neutralised while others fled into the forest with possible gunshot wounds.

“In the course of the investigation, one AK 49 Assault Rifle, one hundred and sixty cows, one hundred and seventy sheep and two motorcycles were recovered at the scene.

The command has according to SP Isah also arrested two notorious bandits that masterminded the killing of one Alhaji Ibrahim Fatahi of Jargaba village in Bakori Local Government Area of the state and recovered two AK 47 rifles.

“On 18th April 2021 at about 08:30 hrs, based on credible intelligence, O/C Anti kidnapping unit led combined teams of Police Operatives and vigilante group to Unguwar Mai Kawo forest in Bakori Local Government Area and raided a bandits’ hideout which led to the arrest of the duo of Buhari Yusuf, ‘M’ aged 25 years and Usman Alhaji Bammi, ‘M’ aged 30 years both of Unguwar Mai Kawo village in Kafur LGA of Katsina State, notorious bandits that masterminded the killing of one Alhaji Ibrahim Fatahi of Jargaba village, Bakori LGA.

” Two AK 47 rifles were also recovered in connection with the commission of the offence, which suspects confessed to belonging to one of their members, one Babangida now at large. The investigation is ongoing.

In the meantime, the command has arrested a notorious armed dealer, kidnapper and bandit and recovered 40 rustled cows.

” On 10th April 2021, at about 13:00 hrs, based on credible intelligence, the command in collaboration with local vigilante group, arrested one Ibrahim Ma’aruf, alias ‘Risku’ ‘M’ aged 40 years of Tashar Bokiti in Runka village of Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State, a notorious armed dealer, kidnapper and cattle rustler.

” Nemesis caught up with the hoodlum when he was accosted at a spot between Dutsinma and Safana Local Government Areas of Katsina State, with 40 rustled cows.

” Furthermore, the suspect was on 22nd of March, 2021 abandoned 96 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition of AK 47 rifle and the sum of 780,000 Naira at a police nipping point along Dutsinma to Safana road, fled and escaped police arrest. The investigation is ongoing”. Isah added.
