The Police Service Commission (PSC) said 30 senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force have undergone promotion examinations as part of their career progression.

The examination, which took place at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall in the Commission’s headquarters, included an Assistant Inspector General (AIG), two Commissioners of Police (CPs), 11 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), and 16 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) out of 17 invited candidates.

PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hashimu Argungu, explained that the Commission introduced the examination to ensure merit-based advancement in the Force.

He warned that officers who fail the test three times will face compulsory retirement.

He said, “Although the promotion examination is coming late in the day, it was still a good development that is expected to restore the dignity of the Nigeria Police Force.

Any Officer who fails the examination three times will be retired at that level for obvious incompetence.”

Argungu stressed that the global security environment has shifted towards skill and competence, making it imperative for officers to prepare themselves for modern policing challenges.

He added that the Commission would also ensure due diligence in the process to avoid cases of promoting dead or retired officers.

The promotion exercise drew the presence of retired Justice Paul Adamu Galumje of the Supreme Court, retired Justice Christine Ladi Dabup, retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu, retired DIG Uba Bala Ringim, and Alhaji Abdulfatah Mohammed.
