The Kano State Police Command has reunited a 16-year-old boy, earlier found wandering in Dadin Kowa village of Doguwa Local Government Area, with his family after an investigation established his true identity.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued Monday, saying the matter had been successfully resolved following a thorough police investigation.

SolaceBase recalls that the teenager had initially claimed to be a Spanish national identified as Alex Ansol when he was first discovered, raising concerns and attracting public attention.

However, the police said further investigation revealed that the boy’s real name is Yusuf Sabiu, a 16-year-old Nigerian whose parents were eventually traced after the case gained wide publicity.

Kiyawa explained that Yusuf’s father was identified as Saminu Yusuf, 44, from Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, while his mother, Habiba Alhassan Adam, 35, hails from Plateau State.

The police spokesman added that investigations showed the boy’s parents had been separated for more than 13 years.

“The teenager who had earlier claimed to be a Spanish national named Alex Ansol was found to be Yusuf Sabiu, aged 16,” the statement said.

The command said the boy was formally handed over to his parents at the Doguwa Police Division through the Divisional Police Officer.

Kiyawa commended journalists, media organisations and social media users for helping circulate the earlier report about the missing teenager, noting that the widespread publicity contributed significantly to tracing his family.

“The command sincerely appreciates members of the press, media houses and social media users who promptly shared the initial report,” he said, adding that the quick dissemination of the information played a key role in resolving the case.

He also urged parents and guardians to promptly report missing persons to the nearest police station to enable swift intervention by security agencies.

The police further advised separated or divorced parents to maintain effective communication regarding the welfare of their children to prevent situations where minors wander off or become exposed to danger.
