The Poultry Association of Nigeria, Kano Chapter, has called on the government and philanthropists to urgently intervene in what it describes as a devastating crisis facing the poultry industry following the recent outbreak of Avian Influenza.

SolaceBase reports that this was disclosed in a statement signed by the association’s Chairman in KANO, Dr. Usman Gwarzo, on Wednesday.

The association lamented the massive losses suffered by farmers due to the outbreak, which occurred between November 2024 and February 2025, stressing that the industry has been abandoned despite its critical role in the state’s economy.

“A Tale of Abandonment and Disparity: A Call to Action for Kano’s Poultry Industry,” the association titled its statement, highlighting the absence of meaningful support to poultry farmers while comparing it with the government’s quick response to a recent market fire incident.

“The glaring disparity between the government’s swift response to a recent market fire and the neglect of the poultry industry, which sustains thousands of livelihoods, is stark,” the association said.

It urged the government and wealthy individuals to provide financial assistance to poultry farmers and to implement policies that would revive and sustain the industry.

“Globally and within Nigeria, examples abound of support provided to critical sectors contributing to the economy and people’s livelihoods.

The statement read, “Immediate action is crucial to prevent further decline and to safeguard the interests of farmers, the economy, and the nation.”
