Profile: Meet newly elected BUK VC Haruna Musa

The newly elected Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Haruna Musa, is a Professor of Polymer Chemistry in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry.

Musa joined BUK as a Graduate Assistant in 1993 and rose to the rank of full Professor in 2019. He has served as Head of Department and is currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics).

He is a respected leader known for promoting research excellence and strengthening academic programs.

He is skilled in curriculum development and has played a vital role in university-wide policy and academic planning.

ACHIEVEMENTS

He was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) in 2025, overseeing academic affairs and quality assurance.

Prof. Haruna Musa has published over 22 impactful papers in polymer and environmental chemistry, with over 11,000 reads and 222 citations on ResearchGate.

He served as Deputy Director at the Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainability Transitions, fostering innovation in clean energy research.

He obtained his PhD in Polymer Chemistry from the University of Bristol, UK, in 2009, strengthening BUK’s international research collaborations.
