Protest escalates in Kano community after young man dies in police custody
Tension erupted in Rano Local Government Area of Kano State on Monday following the death of a young man, Abdullahi Musa, who reportedly died in police custody during interrogation.
Solacebase reports that Abdullahi was arrested on Sunday over an alleged traffic offence. His death sparked outrage, leading to a protest by residents, particularly youth in the community.
The demonstration, which began peacefully, later turned violent as protesters stormed the Rano Divisional Police Headquarters and set it ablaze in reaction to the incident.
During the chaos, a police officer was reportedly injured after being attacked by the protesters. The officer, whose identity was not disclosed, is said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility.

Eyewitnesses told journalists that the situation further escalated when police allegedly opened fire to disperse the crowd, resulting in injuries to two young men.

“We were protesting peacefully and wanted answers about Abdullahi Musa. But everything turned chaotic, and the police started shooting.”
Confirming the incident, Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said a full investigation would be launched.
“Yes, an incident occurred in Rano. A thorough investigation will be conducted to uncover the truth, by the Grace of God.”
