Protest in Osun over hike in petrol price, electricity tariff

A coalition of Civil Society Organisations hit the roads on Friday with protest against the hike in electricity tariff and petrol price in Osun state.

The protest started from Freedom Park, Osogbo around 8:30 am with hundreds of demonstrators blocking major roads in the state capital.

They were out with different placards displaying different inscriptions. Some of the inscriptions read: ‘Enough is Enough!’, ‘Revert Pump Price Now!’, ‘All We Want Is a Better Life’, ‘Electricity Tariff Hike Is ill-Conceived’, among others.

They decried  “approval of new electricity tariff and increment in the pump price of petrol is the highest level of insensitivity and wickedness from President Muhammad Buhari led- government.”

Solacebase reports that petrol prices have increased for three straight months, rising from N121.50–N123.50 per litre in June to N140.80-N143.80 in July, N148-N150 in August and N158-N162 in September.
