Protests: PDP accuses Tinubu of heightening tension with deafening silence

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s silence amidst widespread national protests, urging him to address the nation immediately.

The PDP accused Tinubu of exacerbating public anxiety by not speaking out during this critical period.

In a statement released on Saturday by National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba called for the President to reassure citizens and tackle urgent issues such as the soaring prices of petroleum products, the plummeting value of the Naira, and the provision of food supplies.

Ologunagba stressed the need for decisive action to revitalize the economy, stimulate employment, and restore political stability.

“The PDP demands that President Tinubu immediately address Nigerians on urgent steps to reduce the price of petroleum products, stem the fall of the Naira, and ensure speedy provision of food among other critical issues so as to revamp the productive sector, stimulate employment, and restore stability in the polity,” the statement read.

The party expressed grave concern over Tinubu’s silence, suggesting it signals a dangerous disregard for public sentiment and the deteriorating state of the nation.

They highlighted the alarming situation where security forces allegedly controlled by the APC are assaulting, shooting, and killing unarmed protesters, with thugs supposedly mobilized by the ruling party also attacking innocent citizens.

The PDP called on President Tinubu to immediately break his silence and address the nation to quell the growing unrest and uncertainty.

They emphasized the importance of reducing the prices of essential commodities, including petroleum products and food, and criticized the current high costs.

“President Tinubu should also urgently commence the process of recovering the over N50 trillion reportedly stolen by APC leaders, reduce tariffs on essential goods, cut the cost of governance, review all luxury items in his government, and channel funds recovered to programmes that have a direct bearing on the wellbeing of Nigerians,” the statement continued.

Additionally, the PDP demanded a thorough investigation into the reported killings of unarmed Nigerians by certain security operatives and urged security agencies to uphold professionalism in their duty to protect citizens.
