The Rural Electricity Agency (REA) will build a 12MW solar plant as a grant to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
SolaceBase reports that it is an intervention towards addressing the institution’s electricity challenges and enhance its operational efficiency.
Director Public Affairs Directorate of the university, Malam Auwal Umar, made this known in a statement issued to newsmen on Friday in Zaria.
According to Umar, the Managing Director of REA, Alhaji Abba-Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed the plan when the ABU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, paid him a courtesy visit at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
Umar said the persistent electricity challenges faced by the university would soon be a thing of the past.

He added that the institution has been selected as one of the seven universities to benefit from the special intervention project under the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund.

He added that the university and REA had agreed to sign a term sheet to formalise the collaboration in the coming weeks.
The statement also quoted Prof. Bala as expressing the university’s immense gratitude to the agency for its support.
